Meet Kaye Sharp PT

What was your inspiration behind being a yoga teacher?

KAYE: For years, I used the principles of yoga as well as the physical practice of postures and asanas to help my PT patients regain mobility and manage pain. So, when I began yoga teacher-training, I really had no intention of teaching classes. I never even considered going through formal training until I was introduced to Alignment Yoga by my teachers, Becca Impello and Kim Drye. I was their student when they started their own Alignment yoga teacher training program, Here Now Yoga. My initial intention was to begin teacher training to go deeper into my own personal practice and learn more about yoga therapy, for my patients.

What do you like most about teaching at YTC?

KAYE: The Great Yoga Wall! I can’t imagine teaching without it. The yoga wall is such a versatile prop—it really allows the teacher to make yoga practice safer and more accessible to each individual. Plus, we have the only yoga wall studio in the state, which makes us unique in our ability to offer therapeutic-based classes to the community. The yoga wall is used in many of the yoga and Pilates classes we offer, as well as private one-on-one yoga sessions and workshops.

What are your hobbies?

KAYE: I love to exercise, so I make it a priority to do some form of exercise every day. I spend most of my free time with my husband and our six kids—they keep us pretty busy! I am a perpetual student, and I'm always looking to learn something new or to dive deeper into research on health topics (yes, I’m a nerd!). My happy place is sitting on the beach, under an umbrella, listening to the ocean.

How do you keep up your own personal yoga practice? What other fitness/exercise do you enjoy?

KAYE: Keeping a personal yoga practice is challenging as a teacher and studio owner. I have found that my best practice comes when I am planning treatments or postures for clients and PT patients. I use my quiet time to go through sequences that I want to teach—I always learn something new about my own body when I am planning treatments! I also enjoy Pilates at our studio, HIIT, and trail running.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

KAYE: I am the youngest of 9 kids in my family! The older I get, the more I appreciate all of the sacrifices my parents made  in raising all of us. We didn’t always get what we wanted, but we always had what we needed.
